We are pleased to announce the results of the 2025 Idaho Korean Youth Consul General Service Award and the Korean Association Service Award, hosted by the Idaho Korean Association/We-Woori. Many of you have expressed interest in the outcome, and we sincerely thank you for your support.

As this was our first year offering the award, the number of applicants was smaller than expected, with a total of five students submitting applications. Each applicant was evaluated through a quantitative and qualitative review based on their submitted volunteer hour documentation and personal statements.

Due to the limited number of applicants, our panel of five judges participated without one external judge originally planned. The judging panel consisted of Professor Jin-ho Joo (BSU), Hyeon-joo Lim (Principal of the former Boise Korean Language and Culture School), and three We-Woori coordinators, Ho-joong Kim,  Jae-eun Lee, and Hyunmee Kang. We sincerely thank each judge for their thoughtful evaluation and hard work.

In selecting the final recipients, we considered not only the number of volunteer hours but also the sustainability, sincerity, responsibility, contribution, and difficulty of the volunteer activities (See the attachment). After careful review, two students, Su-ho Hwang and Kanghyun Bae, were chosen for higher scores across all categories. Hwang Su-ho volunteered the highest number of hours across multiple organizations and was selected for the Consul General’s Service Award. Bae Kang-hyun received particularly high marks in sincerity, responsibility, and contribution, and was selected for the Korean Association Service Award.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all applicants who showed interest in this year’s Service Awards and worked diligently to prepare their materials. Although not all students were selected this time, we strongly encourage you to apply again in the future. To support your future applications, we will email each applicant the judges’ scores and comments.

The two Service Award recipients will each receive a scholarship of $500. This first-year scholarship has special meaning thanks to a generous donation from the family of Sungbin Lim, a former student of the Photography Class (the predecessor to the current Media Class), who studied under Professor Cho and is now a university student. His family contribution is made to encourage and support the volunteer efforts of We-Woori youth.

The Service Awards and scholarships will be formally presented at the Korean Association’s year-end event on December 6th.

그 동안 많은 분들이 궁금해 하셨을 한인회/We-Woori가 주최하는 2025 아이다호 한인 청소년 대상 총영사 봉사상과 아이다호 한인회 봉사상 결과를 알려드립니다. 첫회여서인지 예상보다 적은 총 5명의 학생들이 지원했습니다. 제출서류 중에서 봉사활동의 양적인 시간과 질적 평가는 학생들이 제출한 봉사시간 보충서류와 자기 소개서에 근거하여 심사되었습니다. 지원자가 많지 않아 애초 계획했던 외부 심사위원 한 분의 도움없이, We-Woori 코디네이터 포함 다섯 분의 심사위원들께서 참여해 주셨습니다. 심사위원으로 수고해 주신 분들은 (존칭생략) 주진호교수, 임현주 전보이시한글문화학교교장, 위우리 집행부 김호중, 이재은과 강현미.

최종 수여자를 선정하는데 있어, 양적인 봉사 시간 뿐만 아니라, 봉사활동의 지속성, 진정성, 책임감, 기여도, 그리고 난이도가 고려되었습니다. 심사 결과 모든 심사위원으로 부터 높은 점수를 받은 두 명의 학생, 황수호 학생과 배강현 학생이 선정되었습니다. 양적으로 가장 많은 시간동안 다양한 단체에서 봉사활동해 온 황수호학생이 총영사 봉사상, 그리고 성실함과 진정성, 기여도 항목에서 모든 심사위원으로 부터 높은 점수를 받은 배강현 학생이 아이다호 한인회 봉사상 대상자로 선정되었습니다. 봉사상에 대한 관심과 서류를 준비하는 데 수고해 준  모든 지원자들께 깊이 감사드리며, 아쉽게도 이번엔 받지 못했지만, 다음 기회에 다시 도전해 주길 바라는 마음과 차후 이런 기회가 있어서 지원을 하게 될 때, 도움이 될 수 있도록, 심사위원들로부터 받은 점수와 심사평을 차후 각 지원자들에게 이멜로 보내줄 예정입니다.       

두 봉사상 수여학생에게는 봉사상과 함께 각각  500불이라는 소정의 장학금도 수여됩니다. 참고로 제 1회 봉사상 장학금은 미디어반의 전신격인 사진반에서 조교수님으로부터 사진을 배우고 지금은 대학생인 임성빈 학생 가족이 기부해주셨다는 좋은 소식도 알려드립니다. 한참 아래인 후배들이지만, 열심히 배우고 배운 것들로 봉사할 줄 아는 후배들을 격려하는 마음으로 기부해 주셨다는 점에서 더 큰 의미가  담긴 장학금입니다. 봉사상과 장학금 시상은 12월 6일 한인회 송년행사에서 갖겠습니다.
